I haven't gotten all the way through messiah, but I watched so many Quinn videos that I think I have the gist. That said, I'm worried about 3. Unless the writers REALLY change things, it isn't going to hit like the other “big trilogies”. I'm really excited to see what they do, though. I'll just say that so we don't have spoilers.

The People don’t nothing over Asshai but there is a great trade market in Asshai but why, and not in another haven? Because in Asshai are things to buy that you can nowhere else buy, that means that the shadowpeople were not alone in west Essos but in the forbidden lands to the East, The East of Essos goes far east beyond Asshai, beyond the great desert and there must be lands and maybe city’s because there came “Sun Chaser” ship of Lady Elisaa again to Essos after go round the world [after she find new land and sail around it] or find the East of the Continent. Spoiler warnings. I honestly loved the writing style and the ideas put forth, and agree that the entire dark forest idea (and other moments/ideas/theories) is terrifying, but HATED the storytelling. Most of the characters have little to no progression, are very flat, are only in 1 of the three books, sometimes only parts of one book. Hell, the character at the very end of the series we know VERY little about (I completely forgot who it was till it was mentioned, briefly, and even within the part he is in he isn't important) and is only relevant to the the last few chapters, even though we learn almost nothing about him and he gets zero progression to his character. And the entire third book it became obvious to me that every new thing that was presented as an idea to deal with something, would ultimately lead to nothing, get swept away, proven wrong/ineffective, and that's exactly what happens. There are way too many cooks in the kitchen with the different ideas and science (which I normally love) that don't amount to anything and are over with out of nowhere. The ETO are HUGE in the first book, and are all but gone by the first third of the second book, and barely even mentioned from then to the end of the series. Technically the series has so many interesting points and ideas, but it lacks the soul in the story and characters that make a series good. The first book is really good, probably great. The second book is also good, but wraps out out of nowhere in a scene that contradicts itself for reasons I can't even begin to understand. I don't think the third book is worth reading at all.

This was the first thing I thought of when all these gullible silicon valley idiots started talking about meta verses and downloading themselves into a computer world to escape reality.. What happens when that world starts to glitch? Did they ever consider how to get a person out? What will get you out when the sun goes Supernova and destroys your computer? Have fun in there!

i just started to read the extended universe and i really enjoy them, all dune media is amazing. I've learned die hards would to read the description of sweat dripping a fremens ass then actually story telling.

I read Rama a couple of times. I found it very dry every reading, and I did that because I thought I had missed the point. Years later I concluded the point was even in Space, a new discovery can turn out to be mundane yet exciting at the same time. I believe that yes, there is somebody out there, or was or will be. Will they travel the Stars? How will they do that? Will we travel the Stars. How will we choose to attempt the voyage, FTL, Freeze, Generation? So many questions, but only proposed answers that may not work or is the only way. The story triggered so many questions that years later I continue think of them.

Maybe the real 3 Body Problem is the friends we met along the way... wait wha-?

I disagree that it wasn't a perfect movie; I think that it really was as near to perfect as a film can be. Unfortunately, after seeing it twice in the theater and reflecting a bit, I'm disappointed that many of the important themes from the novel were discarded completely. The psychedelic culture that was in the novel was nearly completely absent. Having been written in the 1960's the original was really steeped in drug-fueled, free-love hippie culture and none of that is preserved. The ecological themes, the austerity and exotic-ness of the Fremen culture; gone. It would've been so easy and so satisfying to see more of a portrayal of Paul Atreides losing touch with reality, getting confused about timelines, having constant visions. But we didn't get that. I think it was a perfect movie. But it was far from a perfect adaptation in my opinion.

Can't wait for this to turn out like Rings of Power, or Foundation, or Wheel of Time, or Halo, or the non-Andor star wars shows, or she hulk, or everything they've given us lately. Trailer might be cool but we haven't seen a great tv show out of them since they stumbled into Game of Thrones on accident.

I think Cixin Liu was actually super optimistic that mankind would unite as a race against a threat. We're far more likely to stick our head in the sand, and ignore it. Look at how we're doing with climate change for example. The scientists keep warning us - we're already seeing the results of those warnings, and yet we aren't doing anything meaningful. Every year is just more shittier than the last. And 3C warming is less than 80 years away.

So, this show takes place 10 years after the Butlerian Jihad, and in a time of utter chaos. All the history of mankind was destroyed, no mentats had emerged, no perfected travel using spice, no gola yet, and many planets attempting to self govern to throw off any outside influence. This is not what was depicted in the trailer. I hope for something good, but this looks far from the books
